Insurance is required in everyday life in South Carolina. When coverage is mandatory, basic protections should be guaranteed.

By signing this petition, I am calling on South Carolina lawmakers and regulators to adopt the reforms outlined in the South Carolina Policyholders’ Bill of Rights so insurance companies do not take advantage of people in a system we are required to participate in.

Rate increases must be clearly explained, justified, and free from price gouging.

Limits on Using Past or Unrelated Claims
Past or unrelated claims should not be used to unfairly raise rates years later.

Protection from Unfair Claim Delays and Denials
Claims must be handled promptly, honestly, and with meaningful human review — not automated denials.

Real Accountability for Insurance Companies
Insurers must be held to the same legal standards as other industries when they act in bad faith.

Strong Oversight and Enforcement
Regulators must have the authority to enforce consumer protections and penalize repeated violations.
